Quilts of any age can be appraised, old, new and anything in between. Often a quilt owner just wants to know how old a quilt really is. For a new quilt, having it shipped, gifted or exhibited in a show is an important reason for an appraisal.
Written appraisals are done for Insurance and Donation purposes. A value is determined in case of theft, irreparable damage, loss, or donation to an organization. Insurance companies, IRS and shipping companies recognize values found by AQS certified quilt appraisers as we go through an intense program of study and testing. These values are determined by Fair Market Value and Comparable sales.
Your quilt must be seen in person to determine its age, condition, size, complexity of design and more. I don’t wear gloves, but have clean hands, when inspecting, as I need to feel the fabrics, thickness and understand everything I can about its making. Your quilt will be handled with care and respect.
I will perform Quilt Appraisals in person, by appointment only, at Maine Quilts July 24-26, 2025 between the hours of 9am – 4 pm during the show. I work in half hour increments, from opening to close. I can do quilts hanging in the show as well. It is advisable, if it’s a quilt hanging that you attach a check with the quilt unless you are going to be there in person.
My fees are $55 for a written insurance or donation appraisal, and $25 for a verbal/consultation appraisal. Paid at the time of service. The written will take at least two weeks to complete and mail, dependent on how many I have. I accept check, cash and PayPal. To make an appointment I can do this by email or phone. institchesquilts@aol.com, subject line to read Maine Appraisals. Please include a phone number. My phone number is (508) 285-4986.
I look forward to seeing your quilts!
