Thanksgiving—Merry Christmas—Happy New Year:

I am sitting in my lounge chair trying to think of something to write and I realized that Thanksgiving will be behind us when you receive the December Patchwork Press. I am a little bit sad about Thanksgiving, it is a great holiday and it seems to be pushed out of the way by shopping on Black Friday, but now the stores are doing early Black Friday deals. I still love going shopping the day before Christmas; everyone thinks I am nuts to be out, but I get to the stores early, shop around, and then by the time people start arriving I am out the door and headed home! And the day after Christmas I am back out to the stores to see if there are any bargains to be had—don’t really need anything but it is the one day my Mom and I headed out the door at 7 am. I miss that time with her; we had lots of laughs as we rushed along with everyone else into the Hallmark store for the ornaments! Filled a bag and then went over to a corner to make sure she got one for each of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren for the next year. She would date the boxes with the year she bought them and she even surprised my daughters and me one year—when we opened the ornament and she had dated it 1915!

Mom was born in 1918! Sorry to waltz down memory lane but I have lots of wonderful warm memories of the holidays shared with my great-grandparents, grandparents, great aunts and uncles, mom and dad to make it all special.

Keep making those memories during the holiday season, and don’t forget the quilts to keep you warm.

Ho, Ho Ho, and Happy New Year!
