10:00 am April 12
2025 Hope Church, Manchester, Maine

The April 12, 2025 PTQG Members’ Meeting will be held at Hope Church, 728 Western Avenue in Manchester, Maine, beginning at 10:00 am. The agenda will include a business meeting, budget vote, show and tell, and lunch.

After lunch our speaker, Kate Gawler, will share a talk and trunk show about “What Makes a Quilt Modern?”. Kate Gawler has been sewing since childhood, mostly garment sewing. In 2011 she made a bed quilt and then couldn’t stop making them. In 2018, she joined the Maine Modern Quilters and found her tribe, serving a term as president in 2022 – 2023. Her quilts have been juried into QuiltCon (the annual international show of the Modern Quilt Guild) and have won three blue ribbons at Maine Quilts. 2023 was a high point, as her quilt “A Game of Jacks” was juried into QuiltCon, featured in Cassandra Beaver’s blog, and published in Quiltmania magazine. At Maine Quilts it received an Award of Merit for Outstanding Achievement in Quiltmaking from the National Association of Certified Quilt Judges, as well as an honorable mention ribbon. Kate is easily seduced by cool patterns, but finds she is much happier taking an idea of her own and seeing where it leads her. She loves freehand cutting, improvisational piecing, big stitch hand quilting and tertiary color combos. She is a retired nurse with a degree in Studio Arts who lives and sews in Belgrade, Maine.

The meeting will also feature a cookie swap!

Please bring cookies to share – we’ll put them out for everyone to have a taste and maybe you will find a new favorite cookie. At the very least it will be a sweet way to welcome Spring!
