Karen Witt
Karen Witt
12 noon – 1 p.m.
Augusta Room, 2nd floor North Wing

Explore quilting in America from the 17th century to today as we look at fabrics, quilt styles and even sizes! For example, did you know that people used to sleep as many as five in one bed so quilts were wider than they were long? Learn how simple blocks can become very artistic when fabrics from different time periods are used. At the end of this lecture, quilters will understand which fabrics and quilt styles were popular in each period of American history. Participants will receive a chart with a summary of this information so that they can utilize this new knowledge as they make reproduction quilts

Tickets are $10; they may be purchased in advance on your Workshop and Event Registration Form or at the show.

David Taylor
David Taylor
6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Augusta Room, 2nd floor North Wing

Since childhood, David Taylor has had an obsession with fabric. He toyed with the idea of quilting many times, but it never took. He was making his own clothes by the age of 10, created costumes for live theater groups, and even worked for a nationwide fabric store chain for a number of years. “Cutting up my precious fabrics into little bits was never appealing.” Now, years later, he has earned numerous honors and awards as an accomplished art quilter. David loves his fabric and you’ll love his sense of humor!! This is a lecture you won’t want to miss.

Dinner is $28 including the lecture. Tickets may be purchased in advance on your Workshop and Event Registration Form with a deadline of July 22.

Andrea is a well-known art quilter that uses her background as a biologist and her love of the natural world as inspiration for her art quilts.  Clearly her love (and knowledge) of plants and flowers has flowed throughout her work as an artist to create realistic imagery in fabric. Andrea uses a variety of techniques in her work including fusible appliqué, painting on silk and thread painting to create her work. During this lecture Andrea will discuss her journey as an Art Quilter and how her quilting has changed over the years. She will also be discussing her 2019 ME Quilt Show exhibit entitled “Botanicals in Fiber, Contemporary Floral Art Quilts”.

Tickets are $10; they may be purchased in advance on your Workshop and Event Registration Form or at the show.
