Andrea Brokenshire (AMB Fiber Art and Design) is a national and international award-winning fiber artist and instructor from Round Rock, Texas who specializes in contemporary art quilts which depict botanical imagery inspired by her photography. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Oregon State University in 1984. She combines her love of the natural world and fabric with her art. Andrea’s art quilts depict large scale flora appliquéd and then thread-painted onto a “confetti” background of multiple fabrics reminiscent of the impressionistic era.

The journey for Andrea began at an early age. As one of five daughters, she started making apparel at age five which instilled a lifelong love of fabric, color and texture.  Her parents recognized and nurtured her creativity as a young girl by enrolling her in Singer Sewing classes as well as painting classes in her community. A self-professed technique junkie, she pushed herself to learn and experiment perfecting her skills.

Andrea’s introduction to quilting began in 1997 when one of the ladies in the group, who was a quilter, suggested making a round robin quilt. She entered her first quilt competition in 1999 interpreting traditional appliqué’ with her colorful flair. A catastrophic illness in 2005 abruptly ended Andrea’s quilting. In 2007 she rediscovered the simple joy of quilting experiencing a creative epiphany that helped her find her own voice of creative expression.

Since then, Andrea returned to the quilting world in 2007 and her Art Quilts have been published in several creative art publications, been featured in various gallery exhibitions, and hung in several local, national and international quilt venues. Andrea is continually honing her style and pushing the creative boundaries of her imagination with her painted botanicals and thread play.
