WEDNESDAY, JULY 25

Champagne Reception & Preview 7 – 9 p.m.

Join us for our 41st quilt show and celebrate!  Be among the first to attend Maine Quilts 2018, view the quilt exhibits and shop in Merchants Mall – all the vendors will be open for business – without the crowds of opening day! One ticket to this event is included as part of the Advance Admission fee or workshop registration fee by filling out the Workshop and Event Registration form. Tickets can also be purchased at the door on Wednesday evening for $10.

This year’s charity is WomenHeart. We are throwing our support behind the HeartScarves project knitting, crocheting, sewing or weaving red scarves for women with heart care needs. Make a red scarf, any size, and bring it to the Quilt Show and we will see that the scarf reaches a current heart patient in Maine.  There is a brief description from WomenHeart’s website about the intent of the program.

Augusta Room, 2nd floor North Wing

I began making Hawaiian quilts in 1978, and immediately became intrigued with the history and folklore surrounding this spectacular quilting art form. With my own quilts, I share what I have learned about the traditions and superstitions that are interwoven with Hawaiian quiltmaking, the mysterious story of how they began, and how they became my obsession…perhaps yours, too?

Dinner is $28 including the lecture.  Ticket may be purchased in advance on your Workshop and Event Registration Form with a deadline of July 24.

SATURDAY, July 28

Noon Lecture – “Fabric Images”

Susan Carlson
Susan Carlson
Susan Carlson
12 noon – 1 p.m.
Augusta Room, 2nd floor North Wing.

This is an inspirational and informative slide-show and lecture starting with my first fabric experiments of more than twenty years ago, in which I began to combine fabric and art. I believe these early projects led to the fabric collage method that began in 1990. The slide lecture traces this progression of my quilts to the present day, with insights and stories for each. The step-by-step development of a piece is shown, from the original inspiration to the finished wall hanging. I share techniques and hints for design, fabric selection, construction, borders, and quilting. A question and answer period follows. Susan is displaying her special exhibit “Specimens” in the Auditorium. Don’t miss seeing these fabulous quilts.

Tickets are $10; they may be purchased in advance on your Workshop and Event Registration Form or at the show.
