Storm at Sea by David Sirota

Please join us the weekend of April 28th through 30th as we welcome David Sirota, from Manchester, New Hampshire.  David will be teaching his “No More Tears Paper Piecing” technique.

David says it all started when he needed kitchen curtains and decided to make them himself.  David has been quilting since the late 90’s (1990’s that is) when his friend Amy Fitzpatrick taught him the basics of quilting.  David was a faithful watcher of “Simply Quilts” for all the information he could glean.  There was one technique that he was drawn to and that was paper piecing.  He thought it was cool because of the intricate and accurate results.  The only drawback was that he had difficulty wrapping his head around it, kinda like upside down and backwards.  Once he got it the results were quite exciting.  Except there were a couple of huge drawbacks…how to orient the next piece of fabric and the paper.  Regardless of the kind of paper he used, it still had to be torn off.  David started thinking about how to make paper piecing simpler and faster.

Directions to Hope Church

From Interstate 95 exit 109 to ME-100 S/ME-17 W/US202 W/Western Ave in Augusta towards Winthrop. Follow US-202 W/ME-17 W/ME-100 W for 1.6 miles.

Church will be on your left.

In 2004, he figured it out and his “Sirota No More Tears Paper Piecing” was born.  David’s method is easier to understand and takes at least half the time of traditional paper piecing.

David’s method is so successful that he is now teaching all over the country.

On Saturday, the 29th David will be presenting a lecture on “What Makes a Quilter Tick?”
