203 – Thread Paint your own Photo

Thread-painting gives you the freedom to make a very realistic, tapestry-like image entirely with thread, using a free motion zigzag and straight-stitching.
Starting with your own good-quality photo), we will explore ways to create color combinations and textures to transform it into a realistic 8 ½” x 11” thread painting. Great topics include pets, flowers, landscapes, seascapes. No human faces, please. You will be amazed by what you can do!
Important Note: students are asked to send me their proposed photo two weeks ahead of time for approval, possible editing, and printing.
Kit fee $30 required, it includes:
- Review and editing of photograph you send me no later than two weeks ahead of class
- two 8 ½” x 11” color copies of your photograph, for in-class exercises
- your photograph printed in color and made into an 8 ½” x 11” prepared quilting sandwich
- a plain 8 ½” x 11” quilting sandwich to use for in-class exercises

303 Thread Painting 101

Thread-painting gives you the freedom to make a very realistic image entirely with thread! We will start with pencil-and-paper exercises to study line direction and color changes, and a few warm-up machine exercises in free-motion straight stitch and zig zag. These skills in hand, you will then thread-paint a beautiful bluebird.
To save time in class, your required, $30 kit includes a two prepared 8 ½” x 11” thread painting sandwiches, one for practice and one for the Bluebird, as well as detailed directions for making and finishing the Bluebird.
You’ll be amazed what you can do!
403 – Piecing a Picture Quilt

Learn how to piece a small picture quilt that finishes about 11” x 17”, using my pattern for a landscape, cat, or daylily. Learn to see piece very precisely, handle curves, and see fabric differently!
The landscape is all straight-edge piecing, and is the easiest to do. Through fabric selection, it can be any season: spring, summer, fall, or winter! The cat and daylily, use curved seam piecing, and I will share some tips for piecing curved seams. I will also show you how to use paper piecing to handle tricky little pieces. Quilting options will be demonstrated at the end of the day.

205 – Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

Dig out those quilt tops and get started quilting. In this workshop we will work on mastering hand quilting with the Big Stitch method. This method uses all the same principles as fine hand quilting with a larger needle and pearl cotton. All the basics of basting and marking and choosing a design will be covered. You don’t have to be an expert to hand quilt your own quilts. Keep it simple and consistent. Samples of various quilted projects will be on hand for reference as well.
Feathered wreath stencils will be provided.

405 – Needleturn Appliqué and Beyond

In this class we cover all the basics of needle turn applique and go a bit further. This class is open to beginners and experienced appliquers as well. Maybe you want to try applique for the first time or just want to improve your skills. We will be working on the wreath block in this class but the pattern for the entire quilt will be provided. You will be confident enough in your skills to finish the quilt after the class. We will learn to layout complex blocks, make bias stems, curves points and valleys as well as how to finish with a scalloped border.

Interleave is the hottest trend in quilting. The definition of “interleave” is to mix (two or more digital signals) by alternating between them. 702 – Tote Bag

Let’s make a tote bag. It is always fun to make something you can use! This class features a simple tote bag that is beginner-friendly that the students will sew from start to finish. This bag will have six different strips of denim, varied colors if wanted. They can place pockets anywhere and customize their bags with appliqués.
Children can bring their own jeans to cut up if they wish.
Children who have their own sewing machine are encouraged to bring it to class. If your child does not have a machine, one will be provided. All materials and supplies will be provided.
