EQ8 is the newest version of this powerful drawing and design software program for Quilters.  Students will learn to draw and edit quilt blocks, create and color quilts with blocks, borders, sashing and applique, and apply quilting designs to completed projects.  By learning the vocabulary and logic of the program in this unique and intensive introduction, students will be able to problem-solve independently and continue to develop skill and confidence in quilt and block design and drawing.

Benefits:

  • If you were not able to learn the program on your own, this class is for you.
  • If you design a block of the month for your guild or shop this class will give you the tools to design and print instructions for your blocks.
  • If you worked with an older version of the program this class will show you the new features of version 8 and how to use them.

Students must bring a laptop computer (PC or MAC) with EQ8 installed and activated on the computer, power cord, mouse, EQ8 user’s manual (digital or print), paper and pen.  Students must have prior experience with the computer they bring for class.

Charm Pack Candle Mat

Use a Charm Pack (set of forty pre-cut 5” squares in one fabric line) to create a beautiful 8-sided candle mat large enough for a side table, coffee table, are dining table center. Choose fabric packs for holidays or any color to match your décor. Use a simple template technique using a 6 x 12 regular ruler.

In this workshop a choice of patterns is provided for students to work on either a cat or a dog which includes Bulldog and Boston Terrier patterns. Consider using a bright abstract color palette for your pet collage. Students have the opportunity to learn the fabric collage technique working on a small project before embarking on their own pet portrait at a later date. During this workshop Jane will give instructions on how to make the enlargement and pattern of your own pet. One pattern per student is provided with the workshop.

Combined Hummingbird, Hens & Roosters Fabric Collage

Hummingbird Fabric Collage:
Learn Jane’s fabric collage technique using two patterns; a hummingbird and fuchsia flowers. These small collaged pieces can later be used in a small wallhanging or on a canvas frame. Two sizes will be available on the pattern so you can work simple or more detailed.

Required Kit fee$15payable to instructor in class. Includes the pattern and fabrics.

Hens & Roosters Fabric Collage:
Choose from a selection of Jane’s patterns and begin work on your collaged bird. Learn Jane’s free-form and relaxing technique of tracing, cutting and gluing your fabrics onto your pattern. The finished size of this project is about 18”. Also learn a variety of ideas for the background treatment and how to free-motion quilt on the design. You don’t have to work with a regular color palette how about a blue, pink or yellow chicken! One pattern per student is provided with the workshop.

Periwinkle Swirl – Master Diamonds and Beams

Join Michelle for Periwinkle Swirl and learn how to conquer the making Diamonds and Beams.  Quilters have long struggled with elongated diamond units and radiating corner beam units.  But fear no more, Michelle will teach you have to use the Studio 180 Diamond Rects and Corner Beam tools to make these units perfectly all while making this beautiful quilt.

Periwinkle Swirl was inspired by Michelle’s spring gardens, where Periwinkle blooms can be found here and there, swirling around in the early April winds. The Swirl blocks create wonderful movement around the Periwinkle Blocks, generating a light and lively vibe, mimicking that fresh feeling of spring!   

Whether you go with pastel or bright fabric, this quilt will look fabulous!  Feel free to alternate the colors to make your own personal version, however, be mindful of the suggested values to insure you obtain the fabulous movement.  Periwinkle pattern offers four great quilt sizes and settings!

Magnificent Majesty Lemoyne – Next Level

Take your Lemoyne Stars to the next level with the Magnificent Majesty Lemoyne Michelle created.  In this class you will master the strip piece Lemoyne Star method and learn how to utilize Studio 180 Design’s Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star® and Tucker Trimmer III® to make these fantastic Majesty Lemoyne Stars. With this process and the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star® tool, you will be able to strip piece and oversize the units to increase the speed, accuracy, and enjoyment when making this Lemoyne Star variation.

Michelle alternated this fabulous Majesty Lemoyne with the first block she remembers her grandmother teaching her to make, the Log Cabin Block.  The combination radiates stateliness, especially with the Empire Border!  

The Bright fabrics in the Majesty Lemoyne Stars and Log Cabin blocks are created with strips from various vibrant Fat Eights or Fat Quarters.  This quilt could as easily be made with yardage, half yards or strips of scraps!  The Background can be made with yardage or you may elect to go scrappy, selecting assorted Scraps, Fat Quarters, or Half Yards, that are in a similar colorway (white on white, cream on ivory, black on black, etc.).  

This quilt is extremely versatile, since the entire quilt is made with strips and is strip pieced!  No Y Seams!

Join Michelle for the Day at the Lake quilt class and learn how to make beautiful Peaky and Spike units, terrific Square-in-Square units, and get some great tips for Half Square Triangles.

This is the perfect quilt for those beautiful larger Fat Quarter Bundles that you’ve been collecting.  Day at the Lake was inspired by a Quilt Michelle inherited from her Oma.  Michelle has fond memories of sitting under the “summer quilt” while sitting on the porch with her Oma on cool summer’s nights.  

Day at the Lake features Log Cabin Patch Blocks intermixed with two different types of V Star (Peaky and Spike) Blocks (only one in the Baby/Wall quilt).  Blocks are constructed using the Studio 180 Design V Block™, Square Squared™ and Tucker Trimmer™.

Small Studies in Improv

Come play! In this class, we will be working with small improv pieced units that will be used to make a small (about 10” x 12”) study.  Working small is a great way to explore techniques and composition styles.  This class will show you a variety of improv techniques, such as skinny curved inserts, curved piecing, improv triangles and dancing squares The first part of the class will be making units based on demonstrated techniques and the latter part of the class will focus on composing them into a small finished top.  Solid fabrics are my preference here and an interesting challenge is to use just one or two colors.

Eel Grass & Eddies

This class will show you how to do a very unique technique of curved piecing resulting in circles.  Developed by your instructor, Marge Tucker, this is a more advanced class but anyone with a sense of adventure can do it!! Students will learn free-form cutting and curved piecing techniques.

Children’s Afternoon Workshop

It is always fun to make something you can use!  This class features a Burrito- style pillowcase that is beginner-friendly that the students will sew from start to finish to take home and keep for their very own. After learning how to operate a sewing machine, kids will use their machine to straight stitch their pillowcase together while also adding a cuff.  Machines, supplies and pillowcase kits will be provided.
