Making Mosaic Art Quilts
In this lecture, Heidi will share how she creates different styles of mosaic quilts. First, explaining how she works from her own photographs to make figurative and non-figurative mosaic quilt designs and then how she draws upon ancient tile artwork reimagining her own Moroccan mosaic tile quilt designs. She’ll discuss both traditional and innovative methods for drawing and tracing designs and fabric cutting techniques. Lastly, she’ll share some of her tips for professionally finishing a mosaic quilt. This lecture will give you just enough insight into Heidi’s creative and inspirational mosaic quilt-making process to make you want to learn more.

Starts with a summary of my pieced and fused applique quilts and the quilting style I developed for them, which served as a bridge to thread painting.
Then see how to make a photorealistic thread painting by selecting the right photo, printing it on fabric, seeing all the colors in the piece, selecting threads, using different stitches, blending colors smoothly, representing texture, and paying attention to detail.
The third part follows a landscape thread-painting from start to finish, to show how a painting actually develops. Slide show, followed by trunk show plus Q&A.
