Karen Combs

April 23 and 25, 2021 on Zoom

Karen Combs is a quilter, author, teacher and designer who is known for her quilts of illusions.  Teaching since 1989, she is in high demand as a teacher who encourages her students, makes learning fun and makes the complex easy to understand!  Karen has been nominated as Quilt Teacher of the Year by students in 1995, 2000 and 2005.  Her work has been displayed at quilt shows and art galleries across the country.  Being a prolific designer and author; Karen has published articles and patterns in many magazines such as Traditional Quilter, American Quilter and Quilters Newsletter Magazine.  She has been designing fabrics since 2001.

In these days of Covid when we are not able to meet and have classes in person, we are very fortunate to be able to offer Karen’s classes virtually.  Please note that the dates for the classes are the same as were originally scheduled to be held in person.  Zoom classes are interactive and you will still have the opportunity to ask questions and Karen will be there to answer.  I personally have done a couple Zoom classes and found them to be very easy even when the teacher was still working out the kinks.  I am sure that now the teachers have had an opportunity to work out all the kinks and everything will run smoothly.

Jewel Box, Karen Combs

Karen will be teaching Jewel Box which is a 4-hour class and will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with no lunch break and the cost for this class will be $40.00 on Friday, April 23, 2021.  This is a beautiful quilt created from just triangles.  Believe it or not, this stunning quilt is created with just one block, done in different colors.  This is created using a light, medium and dark value of four cool colors.  A perfect pattern for batiks, gradated fabrics or hand dyed fabrics.  This quilt measures 48” x 48”.

On Sunday, April 23, 2021 Karen will be teaching Patchwork Illusions which is a 6-hour class that will begin at 9 a.m. and will have a lunch break and the price for this class is $50.00.  Karen has developed a quick and easy rotary technique that allows you to make quilts with a 3-D look.  This is Karen’s favorite class because it is so easy to create truly amazing quilts of illusion.

Remember, you will be doing these classes from the comfort of your own home/sewing space, so you are free to move around as necessary.  This is especially helpful should you forget something in your preparations.  Also, no travel time is involved and no lugging all of your supplies and machine and risking forgetting something.

We are limited to 20 students per class, so get your registration in early.  We will need some lead time between registration and getting the supply list and pattern information to you.  So, register soon and no later than March 31, 2021.
