Carol Doak

As a best-selling author, celebrated teacher, lecturer and award-winning quiltmaker, Carol Doak has greatly influenced the art and craft of quiltmaking for more than a decade, both in the U.S. and internationally. Carol has raised the popularity of paper piecing, her trademark technique, to heights never before seen in the world of quiltmaking. An impressive range of her beautiful blue-ribbon quilts have been featured in several books.

Carol's lighthearted approach and ability to teach have earned her high marks and positive comments from workshop participants worldwide; her enthusiasm for quiltmaking is infectious. Carol has a gift of sharing her inspiring ideas with her students in such a positive and unique way.

Carol lives in Windham, New Hampshire, where she claims the cold winters give her plenty of reason to stockpile a fabric stash for insulation purposes!

The Sunset at Sea (26” x 26”) quilt is made using the foundations in Simply Sensational 9-Patch Stars. The foundations are simple, but the variety of fabrics and the setting produces a dramatic little quilt. This quilt is a great way to use up your fabric stash and a great way to learn to paper piece with perfection. You can use Carol’s colorway or use your own. Just decide on four colors and gather fabric from your stash.

Using your scraps, this full-day class will introduce you to some of the latest paper-piecing tricks of the trade as you sew several different small patchwork blocks featured in Carol's book, Easy Machine Paper Piecing published by That Patchwork Place, to discover how to push the paper piecing limits!
