Karen Kay BuckleySince Karen’s first quilting class in 1982, she has sought every quilting class possible to improve her techniques. In 1986 she opened her own quilt shop and by 1988 began creating her own classes and patterns. In 1989 she left the shop owner aspect of quilting behind; she now devotes her time to teaching, designing and writing.
She is the author of six books; Earthy Delights: The Perfect Finish was released in 2006. The most recent is Japanese Garden Quilt. In 2008, she released her DVD, Hand and Machine Appliqué: The Karen Kay Buckley Way. Karen has appeared on “Simply Quilts” and the AQS show,  “American Quilter.”

Karen has created more than 250 quilts and her work has received numerous awards including eight Best of Show. She has thirteen cover quilts to her credit and considers herself very lucky! In 1997, she was voted teacher of the year by The Professional Quilter. Her work has been featured in numerous magazines and calendars.

You will receive the pattern to complete this 3-panel wall quilt, but in class we will work on the center panel. While sewing on this panel you will learn how to achieve smooth curves, wonderful points and perfect circles. Karen will teach you her fun and easy tips to make your hand appliqué look great.

Wow, this is a fun project. You will be amazed how easy it is to get smooth curves and sharp points as you machine appliqué using an invisible stitch. This project also includes reverse appliqué and a fabric overlay for some added excitement. Come spend a fun packed six hours and learn lots of tips and tricks.

While starting to sew on this 14” square block you will learn to make stuffed bias stems, perfectly round flat grapes, stuffed grapes, dimensional leaves and flowers. You will also learn how to sew nice smooth edges on your curves and keep those points really sharp. (Karen will expect you to be humming the song during class and dancing like the California raisins!)
