Please join us on April 29, 2017 as the Pine Tree Quilters’ Guild welcomes David Taylor.
Come one, come all! Okay, maybe we wouldn’t have room for all!!
Please join us the weekend of April 28th through the 30th as we welcome appliqué artist and quilter David Taylor to the great state of Maine.
According to David himself: “My obsession with fabric began at an early age: salvaging scraps from my mother’s sewing-area trash bin. By the time I was twelve years old, I was unstoppable on her 1967 Sears Kenmore sewing machine, creating costumes, clothing and crafty things. It wasn’t until I landed a part-time job at a major fabric store and met Madeleine Vail, that I realized there were others in the world who were as addicted to fondling fabric as I was.”
In 1999, David and Madeleine collaborated on a fundraiser, creating a queen-sized art quilt as a fundraiser. Since that success, David quilts as a way of life. Taking the next logical step, David semi-retired from his career as a computer graphic artist in July 2009. Since that time, he has enjoyed teaching his appliqué and quilting techniques throughout the world. He has logged more than 300,000 flight miles – the equivalent of twelve times the circumference of the earth. He has visited at least forty-seven states, five countries, and three continents. We are very much looking forward to having David here with us in Maine.
On Friday, April 28th David will be teaching at the Veterans’ Hall in Windham, Maine. You will have a choice of one of two of David’s patterns – the Columbine or the Hummingbird. On Saturday, April 29th, David will present his fascinating story and quilts to the membership at our Members’ Meeting at Thomas College in Waterville. Sunday, April 30th, we will be at Spectacular Events in Bangor. The choices will include the Hummingbird or the Maple Leaf.
David’s workshops will all be hand appliqué. Just think, no lugging your sewing machine and all of those supplies! Come and fall in love with this beautiful, creative, and highly portable form of quilting. Kits will be available for each of the choices for an additional fee and I’ll get that information as well as the tools and other items you’ll need to you once we confirm the roster of students. To see examples of David’s work, visit www.davidtaylorquilts.com.
To register for a workshop, send the completed workshop registration form with your check to Bev Henion 1st VP, 1016 West Bay Road, Gouldsboro, ME 04607. Please register as soon as possible, not no later than March 15, 2017.
We hope to see you the last weekend of April!
